近日，南岳衡山国家级自然保护区管理局救助了一只从树上跌落的猫头鹰幼崽，该猫头鹰学名为斑头鸺鹠，是国家二级重点保护野生动物。这只斑头鸺鹠因从高处跌落，救助时生命体征十分微弱，现采取人工喂食、消炎等救助措施，计划喂养一周左右，待其羽翼丰满带回发现地进行放归。
斑头鸺鹠是鸮形目鸱鸮科鸺鹠属动物，已列入《世界自然保护联盟》（IUCN）濒危物种红色名录，主要以昆虫和鼠类为食，是农、林益鸟，能除去很大一部分鼠疫病源。（来源：新湖南湘视）
